You Will Be Found Flashmob

On September 28th, 2024, 16-year-old entrepreneur, Jasmine Watson, partnered with popular South East Queensland entertainers “Geed Up Band” to bring the Brisbane community together for an incredible and unforgettable performance. This high-energy, synchronized dance event raised over $1K in digital donations for Beyond Blue, a leading mental health organisation. Beginning as just a ‘pop-up show’, Geed Up kicked off the performance with a heartfelt acapella of ‘Lean on Me’ by Club Nouveau. Former contestant on The Voice, Liz Conde, kicked off the flashmob with the uplifting song, ‘You Will Be Found’ from the six-time Tony winning musical, Dear Evan Hansen, followed by a contemporary solo turned duet, signifying the powerful message of the song – ‘you are not alone’. The performance also featured more electrifying hits such as ‘24K Magic’ by Bruno Mars and ‘Life is a Highway’ by Rascal Flatts, to bring positivity and joy to those passing by. The flashmob was held at the Queen Street Mall Stage at 10:45am, creating a visual and emotional experience that drew attention to the importance of mental health.
The flashmob included participants from all walks of life, coming together to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues and inspire open conversations. Not only did the performance engage the audience with upbeat and creative choreography, but also featured incredible stunts such as flips and breakdancing by trained professionals.
Event organiser, Jasmine Watson, said the idea for a flashmob came to her a year ago after performing, ‘You Will Be Found’ in her high school choir.
“This flashmob was an incredibly special project to me. Having experienced struggles with my own mental health, I know how hard it can be, which is why I wanted to create an experience that showed the community that they are not alone.”
Quotes below are to be attributed to Beyond Blue’s clinical spokesperson, Dr Luke Martin:
“We greatly appreciate Geed Up’s efforts to fundraise for Beyond Blue because all donations to Beyond Blue go towards delivering our support services which receive more than 800 contacts a day from people right around Australia.”
“The average delay for seeking support after the onset of mental health symptoms is 11 years. That needs to change; reaching out is one of the most important steps a person can take on the road to recovery.”
